Does Facebook Really Improve Your Bottom Line?

Facebook and your Bottom Line

Facebook says, “Yes”.  But is it true? They even give a list of E-Commerce merchants that have increased their revenue by implementing Facebook strategies. One example provided by Facebook, “Children’s clothing retailer Tea Collection saw daily revenues increase 10 times after adding the Like button to its sale merchandise.”

Shawna Seigel from eCom Experts feels, “Social Media is a required tool for store owners.  It’s a way to bring in sales and traffic to your website, for Google to see if your pages are legit.”

I decided to test it out with our clients.  I set up a Facebook promotion giving customers $5 Off, if they Liked us on Facebook.  In two weeks, we have 13 Likes and looking at Google Analytics, we received 10 visits from Facebook with 1 sale.  What Facebook does not tell you is, how long it will take to turn your “Likes” into conversions or sales. For that you will need to learn how to create a Facebook fan page, then how to use Static HTML, iframes and other apps in order to customize your Facebook to make it presentable.

If your company is going to use Facebook, they need to put the time into doing it the right way to make it pay off.  Here are some tips and tricks to profit from Facebook:

1.)  Your logo image can be 180 x 540 pixels, so I recommend using all the space for branding.

2.)  Set up a Welcome Page using the Static HTML tool that will allow you to show one image for when customers have not Liked you and another image once they have Liked you.  The image can be 520px wide by 800px tall.

3.) Set the default page to the Welcome page under Edit Info –> Manage Permissions –> Default Landing Tab: Welcome.  If you are unable to see the Default Landing Tab Option, it might be due to your Fan Page being set up as a community.

4.)  Create an F-Commerce or Facebook Store using free Facebook apps such as Payvment or Ecwid. Here I used Payvment.  It takes an hour or two to setup, depending on how many products you upload.  You may also use Comparison Shopping Engines, such as Sort Price and ShopMania to set up a Facebook Store.

5.)  Post questions, promotions, and authentic comments to your Facebook.  As Shawna says, “Show off your personality and get involved”. Respond to the comments people are making on your Facebook page. Do not hire someone to put up duplicate content, which they are also posting to other client’s Facebook pages.
